We use a lot of blankets when we are camping – we use them underneath SIMs for extra warmth (they stop the air in the mattress from getting so cold), we use them as extra warmth in bed for colder camping trips but mostly we use them to keep warm on an evening when the sun has gone down and the temperature drops – especially if we are staying on a campsite that doesn’t allow fires – as we are constantly saying to the kids, “It is easier to stay warm than to get warm”. A camp blanket that is easily washable and stores in a stuff sack is ideal.

Dave bought me a gorgeous blanket from Voited for Christmas last year – it is beautiful to look at and has a lovely fluffy fleece back but I always worry about getting it dirty (it wasn’t cheap!) so I tend to stick with using it for breathwork classes etc rather than actually sitting around the campfire.

We’ve found that when it comes to looking for blankets we can use outdoors, we want something that is lightweight and easy to store in a stuff sack as well as something which is machine washable and won’t get grubby.

The most recent addition to our collection of outdoor blankets is the Olpro Blanko which is reversible, water-resistant and windproof – giving way more warmth and protection than your standard fleecy blanket!

Olpro do make a fleecy version of the Blanko but I do think these sorts of things quickly end up with bits of mud and grass stuck to them (which isn’t ideal when they are light coloured) and fleece is never as soft once you’ve washed it a few times so when Olpro offered us a Blanko to try, I knew that the reversible one would be the best option for our family.

The Olpro Blanko only comes in one colour way at the moment – a gorgeous bright blue and orange (as you can imagine, Amy laid claim to it the moment it came through the door!)

The Original Blanko is made from high-quality, weather-resistant materials – providing water resistance and windproof protection which means it’s great for damp mornings / evenings on the campsite or for putting underneath your SIM for an extra layer of insulation on colder camping trips.

The insulated design traps heat effectively, keeping you warm during chilly evenings – it always surprises me just how much the temperature can drop once the sun goes down and if you’re staying on a campsite that doesn’t allow campfires, then the extra cosiness from the Blanko is going to be much appreciated!

Obviously, being tent campers, we’re not camping at the moment but Amy did manage to forget her coat on an evening wander down to the beach so we were super grateful for the OLPRO Blanko keeping her cosy!

The OLPRO Blanko measures at 190cm x 140cm which is around the size of a standard single duvet. The Blanko features loops and clips at both ends allowing you to wear it as a cape (you can even snap it together to create sleeves) or there is a central opening which means you can chuck it over your head and wear it poncho-style – this is a great option for when you’re sat in your camping chair as it’s keeping you warm without you having to worry about it trailing on the floor and getting damp or dirty which we have found can be a problem with a more traditional style of blanket.

Lightweight and portable, the OLPRO Blanko is built for on-the-go convenience – you can stuff it into its carry bag and attach it to your backpack for easy travel. At this time of year when we’re most definitely not camping, I like to leave the Blanko in the car, knowing that it’s there for emergencies (or for those times when the kids have got soaking wet and filthy and have had to come home in their underwear – yes this still happens occasionally even though they are teenagers!)

The OLPRO Blanko is machine washable which is an absolute must for any camping or outdoor equipment when you’re camping with kids!

The OLPRO Blanko is available to order online and is definitely the most affordable of the outdoor blankets in our arsenal!
