Back in October, when we spent a very cold afternoon at Stanley Park in Blackpool followed by a good old walk down the front for Blackpool Illuminations, I realised that my bright yellow raincoat really wasn’t going to cut the mustard this winter and if I wanted to continue getting the kids out and about on adventures, I needed to be dressed appropriately too! I think perhaps the universe heard my teeth chattering that day as when I got home that night there was a message waiting from the team at Lighthouse offering me some items from their latest collection.
I first came across Lighthouse some years ago now when I reviewed a gorgeous bright green waterproof parka (which annoyingly I’ve lost somewhere along the way, probably left in a classroom somewhere) so I knew that I’d find something I loved. Within moments of clicking onto the website I’d found a gorgeous navy coat with a striped lining . . . it might as well have been made for me! Even better, I could order a near identical coat for Chloe who was also in need of a new, warmer coat!
Alanna Coat
The Alanna coat is a gorgeous waterproof park in a flattering 3/4 length fit – which is exactly what I was looking for as my older winter coat was quite short and I would end up with a cold bum and thighs. Admittedly at almost 5ft 10, this is probably not as “3/4” on me as it might be on most, but that bit of extra length covers my bum nicely and is definitely warmer! The longer length could be restrictive but snap fastened rear vent allows for flexibility if necessary!
The 100% cotton outer is fully waterproof thanks to it’s Teflon® coating. The navy “Night Sky” colour way features a navy stripe soft, jersey lining which is incredibly comfortably and super cosy. Each time I’ve worn my new coat I’ve been surprised at how much of a difference the insulated padding makes and I get a bit of a shock when I take my coat off to find it’s actually a lot colder out than I thought!
The hood is removable (though when it’s lined with gorgeous navy stripes, why would you take it off!). There’s plenty of pockets – ones for your hands and ones for your stuff – but these don’t add bulk to the line of your coat. And, while we’re on the subject of the line of the coat, there is a concealed, adjustable waist drawcord if you need to give your coat more shape!
The Alana coat fits me really well in a size 20 but I would say is that there isn’t much room for layering under there – luckily this isn’t something that really bothers me is that the coat is super cosy in it’s own right and I actually don’t like feeling restricted in too many layers.

Emma coat
The Emma coat is available from size 1-2y up to 9-10y and it super similar in styling and features to the adult Alana coat – the 100% cotton outer and Teflon coating for waterproofing along with the soft jersey, navy stripe lining make it perfect for winter adventures – but the longer style give it a much smarter look so I know Chloe will be wearing this for school and days out throughout the winter months!
