I think as kids get older and start to out grow visits to farms and soft play centres, it can be harder to find things for them to do. Go Karting is a great option for kids to test their driving skills and have a bit of fun on the race track – just make sure things don’t get too competitive, you don’t want any arguments!
There are several places in Manchester where you can take kids go-karting. Typically the go karting venues on this list have a minimum age of 8 years, younger children will have to get their kicks elsewhere for now!
Safety precautions such as helmets and safety briefings must also be followed – the rules and regulations will differ for each track so even if you think you’re an experience karter, it’s worth paying attention!
Chaos Karts, Lower Byrom St, Manchester M3 4FP
New to Manchester and due to open on the Old Granada Studios at the back end of summer is Chaos Karts – “the UK’s first live action video game experience combining racing and augmented reality” – now personally this sounds like a fast track ticket to motion sickness for me but I’ve never been very good at gaming and VR. Ben on the other hand tells me its one of the coolest things he’s ever done and he can’t wait to go back!
Chaos Karts combines real-life racing with augmented reality – throwing ‘players into a virtual world, living inside a real-life video game to race-battle their friends, family, rivals and colleagues’. With no physical obstacles on the track and anti-collision technology, helmets and driving suits are not required.

Players must be aged 11 years and above and over the height of 153cm (for reference, the biggest rides at Alton Towers have a minimum height of 140cm)
Each session is made up of up to eight players with two sessions running each hour. Sessions will run for approximately 75 to 90 minutes, including track time, briefing, breaks and debriefing.

Chaos Karts Manchester – review
TeamSport Indoor Go Karting Manchester Victoria, Victoria Station Approach, Hunts Bank, Cheetham Hill, Manchester M99 1ZW
TeamSport is an indoor go-karting track in central Manchester, under the Manchester Arena car park, that offers a range of karting experiences suitable for kids, including family sessions and cadet karting for ages 8-12 years. They also offer birthday party packages and karting tuition.
The track at TeamSport Manchester Victoria is over 550m long and features 15 bends, a flyover and high octane straights for plenty of chance to pick up some speed (up to 40mph!) and go in for the overtake!
If you don’t fancy getting involved in the racing yourself, there’s plenty for spectators to enjoy, including a cosy bar and a trackside gallery.
TeamSport Manchester Victoria is suitable for stag and hen dos as well as racing as a family or even a bit of individual track action if you fancy yourself as the next Lewis Hamilton and just want to hone your skills!

As well as their city centre go-karting venue, Teamsport also has a location in Trafford Park with a variety of karting experiences suitable for kids. They offer family sessions and cadet karting for ages 8-12 years, as well as birthday party packages and karting tuition.
Just fifteen minutes from Manchester city centre (and benefiting from free parking), the new Manchester Trafford Park track is the perfect opportunity to test your racing nerve. Recently acquired by TeamSport, the former Daytona Manchester track has 450 metres of adrenaline-fuelled GP circuit meaning there’s hours of fast-paced fun to be had!
Featuring exhilarating straights and a thrilling flyover, whether you’re a seasoned karter or just starting out, there’s plenty to keep all levels buzzing – don’t worry if it’s your first time, there will be a full safety briefing before your session!
And if you prefer to watch rather than get behind the wheel, the track has a licensed bar and café, so you relax with a coffee and free Wi-Fi until your mum-taxi services are required!
