A long overdue Summer Bucket List update!

Last Updated on 23 July 2023 by Colette

Heck it’s AGES since I wrote a an update on the Summer Bucket List – lots of things that probably should have been individual posts but I’ve been so busy it just hasn’t happened so let’s have a quick catch up now!

1. Amy’s christening

It’s almost a month now since Amy’s christening.  Amy was christened in the same gown that Ben and Chloe wore, the very same gown my Mum made from her wedding dress for my own christening 34 years ago.  The gown is now safely tucked away again ready to, perhaps, be worn again when I’m a Granny myself  (What a thought!) We had such a lovely day celebrating our beautiful baby girl with our closest family and friends (some people did more celebrating than others!)  Amy is lucky to have three wonderful godparents who love her very much and we honoured that they are happy to be such significant people in our children’s lives.

2. Celebrate Chloe’s 3rd birthday

I wrote about Chloe turning three but not really about how we celebrated her birthday.  Chloe managed to celebrate her birthday for about a week!  We let her open her presents from Aunty Nic, Granny and Grandad after Amy’s christening as they wanted to see her face.  On her actual birthday Daddy was working so we opened a few presents and cards before she went to playschool but saved the main ones till he got home from work.  It was really nice to spread it out for her and meant wasn’t overwhelmed by opening everything at once.  When Dave got home from work we went out to Frankie and Benny’s where we had a really nice family tea, the kids all behaved beautifully and it was a proper treat.  Her main present from us was a super cute red spotty balance bike, which she hasn’t had much chance to ride yet!

3. Get involved in some water play

Ben and Chloe got a water tray for their birthday from Nana but it is still safely in it’s box awaiting a safe space to play with it so this one is still very much on the list!

4. Celebrate Ben’s 5th birthday

Ben turned five just last week, but like Chloe had been celebrating his birthday for a while!  As their birthdays are so close we decided they should have a joint birthday this year at once of our local soft plays.  As a result his party was almost two weeks before his actually birthday but who doesn’t like to spin out the birthday based joy for as long as possible!  On his actual birthday we took him off to Frankie and Benny’s at his own request!  As you would expect he was thrilled with his tablet.

10. The lovely Cesca’s Hen Do
This was a Hen Do I’d been looking forward to for some time. Cesca is one of those special friends who I don’t see very often – once or twice a year at best – but it doesn’t matter, it’s always like I only saw her a week ago.  The idea of a girlie weekend away, two whole nights away from home was both terrifying and immensely exciting.  In the build up to going away I was really quite worried about leaving Amy, my bottle refusing baby.  I was concerned that she wouldn’t feed and concerned about the damage it would do to my supply but in the end my fears were pretty much unfounded.  She merrily survived her weekend without me and I got to spend two child free nights in the company of my best friend – we actually couldn’t work out how long it had been since we last managed that one!

July was a crazy busy month!  I’m expecting August to be considerably calmer!!
