The Gruffalo Trail, Delamere Forest

Today I had planned a day of jobs, a trip to IKEA so I could sort Amy’s drawers out, Costco for nappies . . . not an especially exciting day that’s for sure.  When I checked my phone at half 8 this morning I had a text from Michelle suggesting a day out, by 10am we were all ready to set off to Delamere Forest on a Gruffalo hunt.  The Gruffalo Trail is something I’ve wanted to do with the kids for a while but just haven’t really got round to.

Is the Gruffalo Trail at Delamere Forest pushchair friendly?

The Gruffalo Trail is a 1.5 mile walk through Delamere Forest – on a dry day like today it’s surprisingly pushchair friendly but I think you might struggle if it was a bit muddy.  I had taken our Beco Soleil (which I’m in the process of reviewing) but kept Amy in the pram in the end.

Keep an eye out for all the characters from the Gruffalo along the way!

Ben, Chloe, Finley and Erin had a right old time exploring the forest, discovering dens and streams, investigating the different plants and trees along the route.  They enjoyed the little Gruffalo themed challenges along the way all the while keeping an eye out for characters from The Gruffalo story.  We spotted Snake, Owl and the infamous Gruffalo but somehow missed Fox and Mouse . . . poor hunting skills right there!  Of course everyone was very excited when they found an actual Gruffalo hiding in the deep, not so dark, woods!

Make sure you get ice cream from Delamere Cafe!

Of course what adventure would be complete without an ice cream – and wow what delicious ice cream is on offer at the Delamere Cafe . . . even Amy got stuck in, stealing Finley’s blackcurrant cheesecake ice cream and having a pretty good go at bathing me in it!

On the way home I asked Ben what the highlight of his day was . . . “Just spending my time with Finley“.
