I’m going to hold my hands up and tell you that when I was writing this list of Very Christmas gift ideas for people who love to travel, I had more than one eye on the trip I’m taking to Mexico in the new year. I’ve not flown long haul since I was 12 and I’m beyond excited for this holiday – I’m even excited for the ten hour flight if I’m honest. So, when you cast your eyes over this list, know that I was definitely thinking more about an all inclusive girls’ trip to Mexico than a family camping holiday in France (though of course most of the things I’ve included will cross over to both types of travel!)
So, in conjunction with Very this Christmas, I’ve come up with a list of gift ideas for people who love to travel – some are pretty spendy, others not so much!
In-ear Headphones
Sitting high on my list is these Jabra Elite 8 Active Earbuds – I have and love my big comfy over ear headphones and I will absolutely use those for flying but for lying by the pool, being out and about or just for those times when your luggage space is tight, a pair of in ear headphones are the win. This particular pair are perfect for travel as they are completely dustproof, waterproof and sweatproof – designed to withstand full submersion in water up to 1.5m (not that I plan to wear them for actually swimming in).
Travel Hair Dryer
I’m generally super lazy with my hair on holiday tending to wash it and tie up damp each night rather than bothering to dry it simply because it just takes so long – especially with a hotel hair dryer. The downside of this is that I end up looking like a potato in all my holiday photos so, this time I’m packing a ghd travel hair dryer. The ghd Flight+ Travel hair dryer is smaller, lighter and almost as powerful as the ghd air dryer – so there’s no excuse for bad hair days on holiday!
Cordless Stylers
I’ve had my ghd cordless stylers for a while now and whilst they aren’t something I use super regularly, they are perfect for festivals and trips away when you’re just going to need to give your hair a quick tidy up! They charge using any USB-C socket and come with a handy travel case and won’t take up too much space in your luggage. The 20 minute charge should see you right and they full charge again just two hours. The ghd unplugged styler is flight friendly and approved for safe travelling in cabin and hold luggage but, in line with IATA guidelines on carriage of portable electronic devices, ghd unplugged is not recommended for use during flights.
Crocs Sandals
Am I a Crocs girl? No, not really – I totally get that they are super practical for many reasons and I do understand why people would want them for camping etc but I don’t think the whole clog style Crocs are really me for the most part. However, I do love the idea of a pair of cozy sandals to slip on and off on a long flight – or for wearing at home instead of slippers! They’re super lightweight so won’t tip you over your luggage allowance either.
Sunglasses
You can’t go on holiday without a decent pair of sunglasses – even in the winter! Whilst I do tend to wear prescription sunglasses when I’m out and about, when I’m by the pool and I’m less bothered about being able to see any sort of distance I just want a pair of cute sunglasses that didn’t cost the earth. This gorgeous pair of Katie Loxton Sunglasses are super glam and will protect your eyes with UV400 protection cutting out 99% of UVA and UVB rays.
Travel Pouches
There is nothing worse than having carefully packed your hand luggage bag, then emptying it all out for security and finding yourself shoving it all back in a panic so you don’t hold up the queue! When I’m travelling with Dave and the kids, we pack all the tech into one bag to get through security as it makes life much easier to only have to empty one bag – and then I like to make sure I’ve got all the passports and travel documents together in one handy pouch like this one from Katie Loxton. I’ve got a second, smaller Katie Loxton Pouch which I use for bit of medication we might need on the journey – travel sickness tablets and patches, paracetamol, plasters and alcohol wipes. Anything to keep your bags organised and make the journey a little bit smoother!
Portable Speaker
Whilst I wouldn’t advocate blasting out your own tunes on the beach or by the pool (because frankly that’s just rude!), I do love having a portable speaker for travel – one that we can use in the hotel room or on the deck of our Eurocamp holiday home.
The Sonos Roam connects to your phone via Bluetooth so you can stream directly from your phone when you are adventuring or, if you’re at home, it will connect to the WiFi making it super flexible.
For me, one of the big benefits of a Sonos Roam is that when we are not travelling, it can be used as part of our Sonos system at home (even in the bathroom or the garden thanks to it being waterproof!) so whilst it isn’t a cheap travel gift, you can guarantee that you’re going to get your money’s worth from it all year round!
Fingers crossed this list of ideas for people who love to travel has given you a little inspiration if you’re stuck for gifts to buy (or perhaps what to ask for!) – I’d certainly be happy to find any of the things on this list under the tree this year!
