Temple Newsam is a family favourite of ours – especially for meeting with up with friends and family from York. If you’re looking for a cheap, fun day out with the kids in Leeds we definitely recommend you check it out.
There’s so much to see and do at Temple Newsam, from touring the beautiful stately home and gardens to watching the animals who live on the farm.
The stately home houses a large collection of art and furniture, which some kids might find fascinating but mine much prefer to roam the vast gardens, hiding and climbing in the rhododendron bushes that line the paths down to the lake and walled gardens.
Tickets for Temple Newsam House can be pre-booked if you’re feeling organised or you can buy them on the day at the Courtyard Shop – a family ticket for 2 adults and 3 children is £21 and a Leeds Card discount is also available. It has to be said though that we’ve spent many happy days at Temple Newsam without ever setting foot inside the house – so if you’re looking for a day out on a budget, I wouldn’t bother with the house!
The Home Farm houses rare breed animals and farmyard favourites including lambs, piglets, guinea pigs and geese. Entrance to the farm can be pre-booked or paid for on the day in the Courtyard Shop and is charged at £12.40 for a family of 2 adults and 3 children. A Leeds Card discount is also available. I must admit I’ve never actually been into the farm with my three as they are more than happy exploring the parkland and woodland which makes for a nice cheap day out (especially if you pack a picnic).
It’s worth noting that you can book combined tickets for the house and the farm at a discounted rate.
If you need the toilet at Temple Newsam, you’ll find those just at the entrance to the Courtyard.
We usually end our visit to Temple Newsam with a trip to the adventure playground (which is near the main car park) before getting an ice cream from the van which is typically nearby!
Parking at Temple Newsam is limited so I do recommend getting there early to make life easier. Parking used to be free but I have a feeling a charge might have been introduced since our last visit – if you know details do let me know so I can update this!
Temple Newsam typically has a great range of seasonal activities on offer from Easter things to do to Halloween themed activities or even the chance to see Father Christmas.
There is a new festive light trail coming to Temple Newsam this Christmas with the brand new Northern Lights Leeds – early bird tickets are available now if you fancy being organised and saving 15%
