27 Halloween Things to Do Near Leeds [2026]

[I am updating this post regularly with details of Halloween Events in Leeds in 2026 as information & reviews become available but do check with individual venues!]

Whether you are looking for a pumpkin patch near Leeds or spooky Halloween things to do in Leeds there is plenty going on throughout October and across the whole Halloween weekend.

To make this post easy to navigate, I’ve ordered events by date but of course some of them will take place through the whole month of October so it’s probably worth a quick skim through in case you’ve missed anything!

This post is packed with Halloween things to do with the kids near Leeds.

Below you’ll find a list of Halloween events in and around Leeds which took place last year but which are not yet confirmed for Halloween 2026 – do keep checking back!

Birchfield Pumpkin Festival, Birchfield Farm, Harrogate – weekends from Saturday 27th September then daily from Saturday 25th to to Friday 31st October 2025

Just turn up, grab a wheelbarrow, and pick your perfect pumpkin from thousands of orange, green, blue, pink, white, warty or multi-coloured pumpkins across three fields with prices from £2.50 to £12 for jumbo pumpkins – card and cash payments are accepted.

There are plenty of photo opportunities, and you can enjoy the indoor café serving drinks, food and ice cream. Outdoor boots or wellies are recommended as it can get muddy.

Do pay close attention to the parking instructions as it is very easy to get stuck (I speak from experience!)

Birchfield Farm offer a very traditional pumpkin picking experience – No booking is required just pay for what you pick.

(We also recommend visiting their tulip field in the spring!)

Horsforth Pick Your Own, Horsforth – weekends from Saturday 27th September and then daily from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th October 2025

If you fancy going pumpkin picking near Leeds this October half term, why not pop down to Horsforth Pick Your Own where they’ve planted over 85000 pumpkins this year! This family-run business offers a PYO pumpkin experience with a wide range of pumpkin varieties on offer. There’s food and drink on sale as well tractor and trailer rides.

Don’t forget to wear your wellies – the field will be muddy!

Book your tickets for Horsforth Pick Your Own here – tickets are priced at £4 per person and then you pay for what you pick with pumpkins priced between £2 and £12.50 depending on size.

Pumpkin Patch Trailer Tours, Lotherton Hall – Saturday 4th October to Saturday 25th October 2025

All aboard the Pumpkin Express at Lotherton Hall this October!

Hop on board the Lotherton tractor trailer, where you will be transported to Lotherton’s ‘pumpkin patch’ to choose your own pumpkin to take home and decorate.

Charged at £10 for a pumpkin and tractor ride or £5 for the tractor ride only, the Pumpkin patch tractor tour must be added to your General Admission entry to Lotherton.

Halloween Garland Making (for adults), Abbey House Museum – Wednesday 22nd October 2025

Join in with an adult craft session at Abbey House Museum to make a Haunted Halloween garland – no sewing or crafting experience needed. All materials and equipment are provided, and you can enjoy seasonal refreshments while creating your spooky decoration.

This activity must be pre-booked and is charged at £12.50 which includes general admission.

Beetlejuice Halloween Outdoor Cinema at Harewood House – Friday 24th October 2025

Wrap up warm, grab a camping chair or two and head to Harewood House for a special outdoor screening of Beetlejuice this October.

There will be hot food, snacks and a bar available however you are also welcome to take your own food and drink (though alcohol must be purchased on site) – I would suggest a flask of hot food would be a great idea!

Once Upon a Nightmare: Twisted Tales Unveiled, Lotherton Hall – Friday 24th to Friday 31st October 2025

Returning for 2025, Lotherton Hall introduce “A spine-chilling Halloween experience for brave souls aged 8 to 15…”

This Halloween, Lotherton invites all thrill-seekers to step into the pages of twisted fairy tales where ‘happily ever afters’ don’t exist.

Once Upon a Nightmare is an immersive scare event that transforms the serene grounds and gardens of Lotherton into a haunting world where your favourite fairy tale characters live out their darkest versions of reality.

Whether you’re a fan of classic fairy tales or just love a good scare, Once Upon a Nightmare at Lotherton is an unforgettable experience. So, gather your courage, grab your friends, and prepare to step into a world where the stories you thought you knew are filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Spooky Skeletons Trail, Lotherton Hall – Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November 2025

Visit Lotherton this October half term and follow the spooky skeletons trail around the estate and into the haunted house! Don’t forget to dress up in your best Halloween costume and and prepare to be scared as you explore the woods and seek out all of the skeletons who have made Lotherton their home. (You can also pop into the Nocturnal House in Wildlife World to see the bats in action!)

Pre-booking for this event is essential – including members. Book your tickets for the Spooky Skeleton Trail here. This daytime event is suitable for children aged 8 and under, for older children you might want to book the One Upon a Nightmare evening adventure.

Spooky Streets Halloween, Abbey House Museum – Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November 2025

Visit Abbey House Museum this half term and explore the Victorian streets spookily decorated for Halloween. You’ll find scary spiders, wicked witches, wily wolves, bewitching bats and even skeletons pulling pints! (I mean why not?). There will also be a toddler trail for little ones to follow around the streets and spot the different objects as you explore.

Standard museum admission fees apply.

Make a Halloween Decoration at Abbey House Museum – Saturday 25th October 2025

Visit Abbey House Museum this half term and take part in a Halloween themed craft session for adults and older children to make spooky Halloween decorations like woolly ghosts, felt eyes, and pompom bats. All materials, equipment and instructions are provided. Refreshments are included.

Tickets for this craft session are priced at £8 for adults and £4 for children.

October Half Term: Creepy Crawlies, Nostell – Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November 2025

This October half-term, you can follow the Creepy Crawly Outdoor Trail in the gardens with family-friendly challenges and activities, from buzzing bees to wriggly worms. Head inside for the Creepy Crawly House Trail to learn about tiny indoor bugs and how the conservation team protects books, carpets, and fabrics. Kids can also get hands-on in the house workshop to make paper-craft creepy crawlies and enjoy colouring sheets. If you’re still full of energy, try the pumpkin rock challenge in the parkland, and don’t forget to grab a seasonal drink from the café.

This October half term event is free for National Trust members, otherwise normal admission / parking charges apply for non-members.

Family Bat Walks at Nostell – Saturday 25th / Sunday 26th / Monday 27th October 2025

Head down to Nostell for an early evening adventure this October half term. Guided by experts and using specialist detectors to listen for bats, you’ll learn about different bat species and discover their favourite routes and hunting habits.

Family Bat Walks must be pre-booked and are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children.

October Half Term – The Secret Life of Pumpkins at RHS Harlow Carr – Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November 2025

RHS Garden Harlow Carr have lots of half term adventures planned with seasonal activities including a professional pumpkin carving demonstration, Garden Detectives, and a pumpkin-themed yoga and storytelling session. Check the website for more details as to what is available on each day.

All activities are included with standard garden admission (free to RHS members and children under 5). 

Nightmare Before Christmas Outdoor Cinema Spooktacular at Harewood House – Sunday 26th October 2025

Enjoy a fantastic Halloween Outdoor Cinema Experience at Harewood House with a screening of Tim Burton’s classic Nightmare Before Christmas.

There will be hot food, snacks and a bare available on site – you are also welcome to take your own food and drink (alcohol must be purchased on site). I would recommend a nice hot picnic for this one!

There is no seating provided be sure to take along your camping chairs or blankets (the Pacmat picnic blankets are brilliant for this as they are waterproof, fold up neatly and the Patch is even thermal lined)!

Fancy dress is highly encouraged but personally I’d be more bothered about wrapping up for the weather as this screening will go ahead come rain or shine!

Bert’s Barrow Pumpkin Patch, Leeds – weekends from Saturday 4th October 2025

Bert’s Barrow is a family run farm shop with coffee, cake and freshly baked pizza on site. This October, families can enjoy the playground, PYO pumpkin patch and exciting activity barn.

Bert’s Barrow is free to enter, just pay for what you pick. Prices start from £2 per pumpkin and are priced according to size. Entry to the activity barn where the children can carve and paint their pumpkins is £4 per child (Adult supervision is essential. No pre-booking is required, however it is first come first served into the barn).

Bert’s Barrow will occasionally introduce a ticketing system if they get too busy – they ask that you keep an eye on their social media for updates.

My lovely friend Lauren has visited Bert’s Barrow last year and says, that Bert’s Barrow was “probably the best pumpkin patch I’ve ever been to” – she loved that the pumpkins are all grown on site not just shipped in and chucked in the field (yes that does happen), everything was super well organised and just generally very lovely and not over priced!

Halloween Hauntings at Temple Newsam – Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November 2025

Temple Newsam are offering up some spooky this Halloween half term – you can pick up a camera to track down the ghosts of Temple Newsam House before getting your film developed at the end of your visit to see whether you managed to track down any mysterious characters in the darkened corridors! There’s special treats in store for those who get dressed up and creepy crafts to try your hand at too.

This Halloween experience is included with general admission

Halloween Cellar Tours at Temple Newsam – Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November 2025

Dare you venture into the cellars of Temple Newsam House? Explore the dark and scary route below the creaking floorboards – what horrors will you find there?

Be sure to book your cellar tour in advance to avoid disappointment. Purchase your general admission tickets and there will be the option to add tours on for just £5 extra per person. This experience is unsuitable for children under 7 and all children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Ghosts of Temple Newsam Tour, Temple Newsam – selected dates from Saturday 4th to Sunday 19th October 2025

The Ghosts of Temple Newsam Tour is a Halloween event for the grown ups running on one weekend only this October.

Join this spine-tingling tour and discover ghostly goings on at the big house, past and present.

Hear about terrifying tales, strange sightings, orbs, noises and visions.  You may even get a glimpse of the Blue Lady…

The Ghosts of Temple Newsam Tour will last between 1-1.5hrs and tickets cost £5 each.

Junior Ghost Walks, Temple Newsam – Wednesday 29th to Friday 31st October 2025

Take part in a family friendly ghost tour at Temple Newsam this Halloween – perfect for children aged 7 and under, these tours are filled with friendly ghosts, silly surprises and lots of laughs. There’s nothing too spooky here – just light hearted fun exploring local legends in a way that’s safe and exciting for young adventurers!

Junior Ghost Walks are free with general farm admission but booking a place is advisable due to a limited capacity of 20 people per tour.

Pumpkin Carving, Temple Newsam – Wednesday 29th October 2025

Head down to Temple Newsam this October half term for traditional pumpkin carving in the Walled Garden, right on time for you to display your jack-o-lanterns at home for Halloween.

This is a completely free event and there’s no need to book ahead, just drop in and all materials will be provided. Do make sure to take your own pumpkin unless you sowed yours at Temple Newsam earlier in the year, in which case it will be ready and waiting for you to collect!

Swithens Halloween Weekend, Swithens Farm, Rothwell, Leeds – weekends from Saturday 11th and then daily from Saturday 25th to Friday 31st October 2025

Get your wellies and your Halloween costumes on! The scary tractor ride, haunted woods and the resident witch are all back this year at Swithens Pumpkin Festival!

Your visit to Swithens Pumpkin Festival must be pre-booked online. Places are limited.

Swithens Pumpkin By Night, Swithens Farm, Rothwell, Leeds – Friday 24th / Saturday 25th / Sunday 26th October 2025 | SOLD OUT

The scary tractor ride, haunted woods and the resident witch are all back this year at Swithens Pumpkin Festival – but this time you can do it in the dark – this is the pumpkin picking event only, no farm entry as the farm is closed.

Halloween fancy dress is encouraged but remember, October evenings can be cold and wet – make sure to wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear for potentially muddy conditions!

Book tickets for Swithens Pumpkin Festival Evenings – if you’d like to buy a pumpkin, you’ll need to add a pumpkin ticket to your booking too.

Halloween Ghost Train at Whistlestop Valley – Friday 31st October / Saturday 1st November 2025

For one weekend only this October, you’re invited to take the Ghost Train from Clayton West Station to . . . well, who knows?

You ticket price includes a return steam train ride (thank goodness they’re bringing you back!), a Ghost Train experience (lasting 45 minutes to 1 hour), rides on The Clayton Flyer miniature railway and access to The Firebox Cafe.

This experience will be scary so you are advised to use your judgement when booking for younger children. Under 5s are not allowed.

Book your Halloween Ghost Train tickets priced at £9.95 per person (which remains the same as last year). Family ticket is also available.

Halloween Broom Making at Brimham Rocks – Wednesday 29th / Thursday 30th October 2025

All witches and wizards need a broom this Halloween – can you make your own? Visit the team at Brimham Rocks and learn how to make a traditional broom using the birch wood felled from the moorland during essential conservation work.

Booking is required for this event and is priced at £7.50 to include the cost of making one broom. Parking at Brimham Rocks is free for National Trust members or £6 for 4 hours / £9 per day for non-members.

The Halloween Adventure at Stockeld Park at Stockeld Park – Weekends from Saturday 4th October and then every day from Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November 2025

Stockeld Park comes to life this October half term bringing family-friendly spooky fun and some new surprises in the Enchanted Forest. The Playhive will be open to explore (we definitely recommend adding this to your booking -it’s by far the most impressive indoor play space we’ve ever seen) and don’t forget to watch the family-friendly Masquerade Ball crafts and show (this is an additional £4 per person. Every paying child will also get to pick a free pumpkin from the pumpkin patch up to 31st October!

Tickets for Halloween at Stockeld Park must be pre-booked and vary according to your chosen activities – a basic “Halloween adventure” ticket allowing access to the Enchanted Forest, five playgrounds, the Magical Maze and Pumpkin Patch costs £17 per person. If you’d like to visit the new Playhive too, there’s a choice of Playhive tickets depending on whether you want a fixed slot or all day access.

Thackray Lates: Fright at the Museum at Thackray Museum of Medicine – Thursday 30th October 2025

This Halloween, Thackray Lates return with an evening takeover exploring the history and science behind our fears. From peeing in public to being buried alive, being scared of spiders to being horrified by heights, find out the effect phobias have on our bodies. And maybe face some of yours on the way.

Book tickets for Thackray Lates priced at £14.95 per person. Due to the nature of the event, these are experience tickets (so annual passes and other museum tickets are not valid). This event is recommended for those aged 18+.

Spooky Surgery: Eye Dissection Workshop at Thackray Museum of Medicine – Friday 31st October 2025

Ever wanted to try your hand at surgery? Thackray’s series of hands-on experiences for families is back for a Halloween Special! 

Did you know that the eye has approximately 2 million working parts? Learn to name and identify just a few as you get up close to the inner workings of this fascinating body part, as you dissect a real (non-human) eye with the help of Thackray’s expert learning team.

Book your spot in this Spooky Surgery workshop priced at £12 per group (in addition to musuem entry). Maximum two people per table, including minimum one adult. Sessions are recommended for those aged 7+ and will last 45 minutes.

Pumpkin Competition, Leeds City Museum – Tuesday 7th to Thursday 30th October 2025

Head down to Leeds City Museum to enter their free pumpkin design competition this October.

Pick up a worksheet, draw your pumpkin design and post it in our letterbox. It can be spooky, scary, silly, or even abstract – it’s up to you. The best ones will be displayed in the museum for Halloween, and some will even be carved into real pumpkins by the amazing team of Visitor Assistants.

Visitors will vote for their favourite in our pumpkin poll and the winner gets a prize!

Haunted Halloween Hunt, Kirkstall Abby – October 2025 TBC

Head to Kirkstall Abbey this October half term for a Haunted Halloween Hunt in a spectacularly spooky setting! The family trail will take you around the ruined medieval abbey and along the way you will find plenty of creepy creatures, spooky statues and peculiar props. This free Halloween trail isn’t too spooky so is suitable for the whole family.

If it is your first visit to Kirkstall Abbey, please remember to bring your ID as proof of Leeds residency to get a free annual pass to the abbey. For non-Leeds residents there is a small one-off annual charge to visit the ruins, which gives you a pass to visit for 12 months.

Spooky Storytime, Temple Newsam – October 2025 TBC

Enjoy a spooky story time at Temple Newsam this half term – head down to the Joiner’s Shop at Home Farm and gather round the cosy fireplace and share stories designed to delight and thrill.

Spooky Storytime is free with general farm admission – there is no need to book. This event is suitable for under 7s.

I will of course be keeping an eye on these events in case anything changes as it might be that I’m just a bit keen with my updates this year!

Big Fish Little Fish Halloween Family Rave, Belgrave Bar and Canteen, Leeds | No event for 2025

On Saturday 26th October, Big Fish Little Fish will be hosting a Halloween themed family rave at Belgrave Bar and Canteen, Leeds – you can expect bubbles, balloons, a confetti blast, Halloween-themed crafting area and of course a DJ to get you all dancing.

Raver Tots Halloween Party, Pryzm, Leeds – No event details for 2025

The information below relates to a previous event – the nearest Raver Tots Halloween Party is in Manchester

Kick off your October half term with a massive Raver Tots Halloween party! This half term Raver Tots are bringing you a spooktacular indoor family dance party playing the best in House, Garage and Drum & Bass!

Expect huge effects show throughout the event with dancers, performers, cold pyro, bubbles, festival sized confetti blasts, multi coloured lasers and lighting, parachute games, giant balloons, licensed bar and face painting!

Mini Ravers Leeds: Lil Monsters Party at The Warehouse, Leeds – No event details for 2025

This October, Mini Ravers invites you get go clubbing with your kids!

Make an early start to the Halloween celebrations with an indoor Halloween festival with the resident Mini Ravers DJ’s, a whole world of glow-sticks, giant balloons and UV lights (Amy was FASCINATED by UV light when she discovered it at a festival this summer) and giant confetti cannons.

Halloween Mystery Matinees, Leeds Industrial Museum – No details for October 2025

Leeds Industrial Museum is home to one of the UK’s smallest cinemas with just 24 seats! Visit the beautiful 1920’s Palace Picture House this October half term for family friendly Halloween screenings (suitable for all ages).

Film screenings are included in the museum admission charge (from £2.20 for children and £4 for adults).

Halloween Half Term, Leeds Industrial Museum – No details for October 2025

The information below relates to a previous event.

Discover the real stories behind Halloween with 21st-century witches from the Leodis Pagan Circle at Leeds Industrial Museum this October half term.

There will be family fun craft sessions where you’ll be able to make traditional wiccan crafts, herbal bath bombs from the autumn harvest, willow wands and spell pouches.

There is no need to pre book for this event however spaces are subject to availability to it’s a first come, first served situation. Standard admission charges apply (from £2.20 for children and £4 for adults).
