Can you believe that the Gruffalo will be 25 this year!
In celebration, Forestry England are launching a brand-new family trail in forests across the UK including one at Delamere Forest, Cheshire. The Gruffalo Party Trail at Delamere Forest launches at the end of January and will run throughout 2024.

Join Forestry England on a special birthday adventure through the forest!
Follow the brand new Gruffalo Party trail to help find the missing party items to give the Gruffalo a birthday to remember! Along the route you’ll search for balloons, pine cones, apples and the Gruffalo himself. There’s also fun activities and rubbings to complete along the way!
It’s worth noting that the route of the Gruffalo Party trail doesn’t appear to actually include a visit to the Gruffalo statue itself – which seems a bit of an odd decision on the part of the route planners! (I haven’t done the route myself yet, but have picked this up from comments on social media so do let me know if you find otherwise!)

Grab an activity pack
Pick up your Gruffalo Party trail activity pack from the Delamere Forest Visitor Welcome Building – these are priced at £4 (payable by card only) before starting the trail for lots of fun things to do on your forest adventure.
What does the Gruffalo Parry Trail activity pack include?
- Gruffalo party headband to wear
- An activity sheet
- Stickers
- A limited-edition sew-on badge
- Trail leaflet
- Pencil and crayon

The Gruffalo Trails around Delamere Forest are typically pushchair friendly – though the paths can get a bit muddy – and are usually around 2 miles long making them perfect for little legs.
Delamere Forest is dog friendly and as such dogs are welcome on the Gruffalo Birthday Trail, but you are asked to keep them on a short lead as there will obviously be lots of little ones enjoying the trail.
Celebrate the Olympics with a Gruffalo Olympic Summer Activity too!
In addition to the Gruffalo 25th birthday trails, Forestry England are celebrating the Olympics with a quest to find hidden Gruffalo character signs and enjoy Olympic-inspired sporty challenges designed to test your skills and agility!
Players must keep their eyes peeled for scattered letters along the way. These letters hold the key to decoding an Olympic-themed word.
This free Gruffalo activity will be available at 21 forests across England including Delamere Forest from Monday 23rd July 2024.

Where else can you do the Gruffalo Birthday Trail?
Gruffalo Birthday Trails will be taking place at twenty-four Forestry England sites across the country so you’re sure to be able to find a Gruffalo Trail near you.
Previous trails at Delamere Forest have included: Gruffalo Spotters Trail, Gruffalo Orienteering and the original Gruffalo Trail as well as a Zog Trail amongst others.
