Women’s Terradora II Waterproof Hiking Boots – Review

This post features product gifted for review

I’ve been a fan of Keen for a few years now since getting my first pair of Keen hiking boots back in 2018! I have since sung their praises to anyone who would listen – including my osteopath who invested in a pair and loved them so much she insisted on giving me a discount on my next treatment as a thank you!

Since then I’ve worn my Keen Terradora boots probably as often as my trainers, both girls have worn Keen walking boots for kids and all three children had summer sandals last year which were fantastic for exploring and paddling in streams! We recently made the mistake of buying Ben a cheaper pair of walking trainers from Decathlon and all he has done is moan that they are not waterproof – so next time he’ll be getting a pair of Keen boots too!

The last time I reviewed my Keen boots I wrote,

“I always thought walking boots were a bit pointless unless you were the sort of person that spent all weekend climbing massive hills with a flask of tea and a dog in tow.  I was wrong.”

Turns out I’m basically that person now anyway. Who knew.

However, whether you’re walking the dog, hiking with friends or just out on an adventure with the kids, having the right footwear is a game changer. There really is nothing worse than having cold, wet feet. If you’ve recently discovered a love of walking over the last year or so – you’ve probably also discovered that your average pair of trainers won’t cut the mustard, especially during the colder wetter months. More often than not, my Keen walking boots are my go to footwear because they are just so comfortable, so supportive and so practical. (Yes, I think I really am that middle aged!)

Terradora II Waterproof Hiking Boots

My original Terradora boots were tired and well ready for replacing thanks to a couple of holes (in the top of the boot where they would crease at the toes) which were letting in water – so they’ve been replaced by the new and updated Terradora II Waterproof Hiking Boots (£124.99).

The Terradora II boots are such a neat and tidy looking pair of boots compared to the various clumpy, heavy walking boots or trainers I’ve worn before discovering Keen. This time I chose the super plain and innocuous black / magnet colourway as I felt they look really smart so I can get away with wearing the on the school run or at a festival as much as I can on a muddy reservoir walk! (Which is obviously what I’d been doing when I took these photos!)

Although these boots are designed to be quite a narrow fit, they hug my wide feet perfectly – I’m typically a wide size 8 but take an 8.5 in the Terradora II (as I did in the original Terradora) and this is enough for a comfortable, supportive fit and a bit of wiggle room for my toes! I can’t wear especially thick socks with my Keen Terradora II boots but in all honesty this isn’t a problem as the boots keep my feet warm and comfortable without thick walking socks!

In the last year, I’ve started to wear an orthotic insole and heel raise in my shoes (yet more evidence of my middle-agedness I think!) and so I was pleased to see my new Keen boots feature a removable, dual-density EVA insole with arch support for long-lasting comfort. The Terradora II are comfortable straight out of the box – there’s no wearing in or rubbing to deal with. From the first walk I was able to walk miles across uneven ground with the kids and Poppy and just felt comfortable and supported!

I love that the Terradora II fasten tightly, and stayed fastened – I rarely have to stop and refasten my laces on a walk!

The KEEN.DRYA waterproof, breathable membrane that lets vapor out without letting water in which means the boots are waterproof but they are not sweaty! Which I’m constantly grateful for – both on muddy walks and hotter days!

If you’re in the market for a new pair of walking boots, definitely check out what Keen have to offer and make sure you read up on how to take care of your feet before and after hiking!
