The end of the school year is within our grasp. Just another couple of days and this bizarre term of distance-learning will be over and the summer holidays upon us.
Normally at this time of year, we’d be looking forward to a summer of adventures and time together as a family (in fact on this day for the last two years we’ve actually been on holiday!). But of course this year things are a little different and we’ve had SO much family time – more time than any of us would ever normally spend together and so we’re coming at the summer holidays with a slightly different perspective.
This summer we’re not all exhausted and desperate for a break from school (though I will be so glad when the distance-learning is over!), nor do we have lots of exciting things to look forward to – at this stage our diary for the summer holidays would normally be jam packed with plans but this year it’s going to be much more “take it as it comes”. I normally plan a “Mummy Day” for each child in the holidays as well as a weekly day’s childcare to give me a chance to catch up on work and for them to get a break from one another but I’m not sure how that will pan out this time!
Having Ben and Amy back in school has been the best thing for all of us over the last half term – but mostly for their sibling relationships. After so many weeks at home, they were all absolutely sick of the sight of each other and getting back to school after lockdown gave them all a break from one another, and from the four walls of our home! Chloe has loved the extra time and attention that has come with being the only one at home and has had a thoroughly chilled month or two! The bickering levels have dropped to more normal levels and everything is more manageable – of course this does now make me a little nervous for the holidays ahead!
Fingers crossed for lots of sunshine and chances to get outdoors!
