Eighteen Months Old – Amy Watch

Last Updated on 25 September 2023 by Colette

Last night I was just about to log off when I looked at the date.  I hadn’t clicked at all that we were due an Amy update but that more importantly yesterday was her half birthday.  My cheeky baby girl is now 18 months old.  A whole year and a half has passed since she was first placed in my arms.

A fresh born Bo x

This month I feel like Amy has really grown up and developed her independence.  She’s very determined and will make her displeasure heard if you aren’t doing quite what she wants – she’s obsessed with carrying Chloe’s book bag and has quite a strong grip and a loud shout when she doesn’t want to let go of it!  She loves to carry something around with her be it a bag, a teddy bear or her drink!  She’s also really keen on water play – unfortunately this is often in Thomas’s bowl in the kitchen! I can’t wait to be able to get our proper water tray out for her to play with in the summer months.

Her daily routine still follows a general pattern of a morning sleep after we’ve dropped the big two off after school which can be anything from around an hour to most of the morning depending on how the night has been or if she slept well the day before.  Ideally I would have her sleep in the afternoon so as to allow us to spend some quality time together in the mornings however she just can’t manage it at the moment.  I feel she has really missed out on going the the groups that I went to with Ben and Chloe – although she does attend singing with her childminder, I’d like to find something we could do on one of my days off but until she can stay awake all morning that’s on hold.  I think perhaps once Chloe is at school in September we will manage more of a routine in that sense.

Her language development is literally exploding with words like breakfast, dinner, finished, milk, and sorry.  (She’s also tries to sing along to Chloe’s favourite Take That song!)  She follows simple instructions – put that in the bin, give that to Chloe, can you find your shoes? and so on. I think she’s going to be a real chatterbox like her big brother!

We finally seem to be past the separation anxiety, she doesn’t seem to mind seeing me go out of the room or off out for the day now and will just wave and say bye.  This is a huge relief!  This month she’s been showing us just how much she loves her big sister by saying her name all the time!  She sits on the sofa and shouts for her when she’s at school – so very cute.  Much like last month she’s becoming more confident around other people as long as Mummy is within reach.

Her hair continues to grow like mad and not a week goes by without someone commenting on how fair she’s getting.  I think she’s about due a hair cut and I’m hoping we can get the back tidied up a bit this time but that will depend on how quick (and brave) the stylist is feeling!
