Sixteen Months Old – Amy Watch

Food & Drink!
Up until this month I’ve always just put a little of Amy’s food on her high chair try for her to explore and feed herself.  On the odd occasion I did risk giving her a bowl it was quickly on the floor with all her dinner along with it.  At the start of this week she made it very clear she was jolly well going to feed herself her Weetabix thank you very much and that was that.  Out of nowhere she’s now using a spoon or fork to feed herself and won’t be fed by me at all.  Not even yogurt.  Nope, she even likes to squeeze the Frube into her own mouth.  Independent much?Bottles wise she still has one on the odd morning but otherwise its just bedtime and the odd one in the night when necessary.  She certainly lets us know when she wants it by shouting “juuuuuice” if she can see her bottle up on the side at bedtime!

 

There’s been some big leaps forward with Amy’s sleeping this month.  She’s finally in her own room and is sleeping through more nights than not.  Between a couple of nights in York, an adventure to Swansea Bay and bedroom swapping it hasn’t been a very settled month but she’s coped well in all in all.  It’s certainly easier to leave her to settle herself a bit now that she’s in the room next door too (though it really strange just how quiet our room is without her there).Daytime sleeps are causing a bit of an issue at the moment – she still sleeps much of the morning once we’ve done the school run and proved to me quite clearly when Dad was here working the other week that she’s definitely not ready to move her sleep to the afternoons by falling asleep in her highchair while I made her dinner – poor little love.  So for now we’ll stick to our morning sleep routine.  She desperately needs a sleep in the afternoon but won’t go down in bed, or at least not early enough to make it worthwhile before I’d have to wake her for the school run.  Once or twice I’ve put her in her pram for a snooze about 2pm which has worked well so I’m going to carry on trying to do that as a routine over the coming week and see if that helps as she’s a complete horror by tea time now.

Weight & Height

As ever I’ve no idea really other than to say that she is starting to wear the odd bit of 18-24 month clothing now.

Physical Development

Having said last month we’d not had any new teeth for a good while this month we’ve had four new ones.  They’ve been hard work for her and have caused her to be quite poorly – she has been full of cold for weeks and we had a whole week where she was being really sick most days.  The GP put it down to a bug but I really wasn’t convinced.  Anyway when I discovered these new teeth that pretty much solved the mystery for me.  She’s definitely a bit of a puker when she’s teething poor love.  As a result of being so poorly I think she’s probably lost a bit of weight, her face looks a little slimmer, he cheeks less chubby and baby like,

This month she got her first shoes – red ones!  She’s 4.5F which I think is about the same size as the other two were when they got their first shoes.  She’s really enjoying her freedom and is quite happy to have her reins on and explore.  This week we’ve been able to let her do a bit of walking on the school run as the weather has perked up a bit.  In fact tonight she walked a most of the way there and back – which is almost half a mile!  Granny was very impressed.   She’s getting really confident with her walking now and she even made an attempt at a bit of a run this afternoon!

Language Development

Amy’s language is coming on in leaps and bounds.  Off the top of my head we’ve got Mummy, Daddy, cheese, shoes, feet, juice, biscuit, a clear attempt at Ben and Chloe, yes, no, please (sort of), bag, hat.  Both Ange & I have heard her trying to sing Twinkle, Twinkle too!  She’s just constantly chattering away at the moment and I’m loving it!  She gets so frustrated when she can’t make herself understood.

 

Happy Friday…. *sigh* #toddler #tantrum #instakids #notsocute This was the tail end of a 45 minute hissy fit. She’s now absolutely fine & smiling again thank goodness. Mummy is exhausted

Family & Friends 

We’re still very much Mummy’s girl, still struggling (by which I mean screaming hysterically) when she thinks I’m going somewhere without her (be it upstairs or out of the house).  That said she’s fine when I leave her with Ange on a work day!  She’s generally very smiley and sociable as long as she feels safe and in control.  She won’t go to just anyone but equally she was more than happy to go to Uncle Will for a fuss today even though she hadn’t seen him for three months.  She loved holding his hand on the school run and kept looking for him – super cute.

Favourite things

She’s still loving her thumb and a good hair twiddle when she’s tired or a bit sad.  She’s also still very keen on putting things in and out of bags, boxes and whatever other container she can get hold of – her favourite, and probably most annoying, thing to do is open the corner cupboard in the kitchen and empty all the jars of herbs and spices out of it.  This is driving me round the twist hoovering up lentils off the floor and worrying about what she might break or eat.  Typically it’s the only cupboard which doesn’t have a lock on it at the moment!  Aside from this she likes to carry round a teddy for a good cuddle or sometimes a doll.
