Three Months Old – Amy Watch

Last Updated on 25 September 2023 by Colette

I can’t honestly believe it’s already time to be writing Amy’s three month update!

She has grown so much – at her check up at 11wks she weighed 13lb – she is now starting to wear 3-6mo sleepsuits and maybe even the odd outfit.  I’ve put most of the 0-3mo stuff away now which of course made me feel very sad!

She was getting pretty squashed in her moses basket so we graduated her to her crib at the weekend and, to coincide with this, started a proper bedtime routine.  Three nights in and she’s doing amazingly well – we’ve done exactly the same as with the other two: changed her, boob, bed, book and there hasn’t been a peep! Not a single little squeak! She has just settled herself and gone straight to sleep.  Ok so we’re only three nights in and I know perfectly well that tomorrow she might just decide to completely change her mind but for now I’m thrilled and celebrating a win!  It does feel really strange to be downstairs without her for an hour or so though! She loves a good suck of whichever bit of her hand she can get near her mouth so we can often hear that down the monitor!

Over the last month her sleep has either been amazing or dreadful – if she sleeps well during the day she can self settle beautifully and sleep really well at night, if she gets over tired then you’re in for a struggle and a late night!  I’m hoping that proper bedtimes are going to help with that though. She has generally been going down between 9 and 10pm with a feed around 4am which is much the same as last month really but the bedtime is definitely creeping forward. I’m finding she will often sleep school run to school run – be it all morning or all afternoon – but she still hasn’t put herself into a definite routine as yet. I put her to sleep in the pram during the day for ease so that I don’t have to disturb her if it’s time to collect Ben or Chloe. I’m going to have to stop using the carry cot soon though because she’s just so long!

We are still fully breastfed and as yet I haven’t even attempted to offer her a bottle – whoops!  I might well regret that when the time comes that I need an hour to myself but as yet there hasn’t really been any pressing need! It’s on the to do list though – just so I know it’s an option!  We had a difficult few days earlier this week where she had got quite lazy with her latch which meant she made me very sore and wasn’t draining me properly – cue some very painful boobs!  We seem to have got past that again though thankfully.

She’s a very relaxed little lady really – she has spent the last month practising her smiles and gurgles and generally melting hearts.

And of course her hair continues to be crazy and draws much attention!

  1. They grow so quickly, if only we could keep them younger for longer. I love her hair, all of mine were bald.

    • I've had people stop me in the shops to say that! One woman actually exclaimed "Oh my god why has your baby got so much hair and mine has none!"
