It seems so utterly ridiculous to me that I’m writing Amy’s two year update. TWO WHOLE YEARS?! Where on earth has that time gone? From that squishy, newborn bundle with a full head of dark curly hair to this gorgeous, cheeky blonde who we are in awe of every day of the week. I find it hard to believe that Amy has been in our lives for two wholes years yet in the same breath I can barely remember a time without her here. She has well and truly completed our little family.
She worships her siblings as they do her. Whilst she has settled well into them being back at school and we enjoy our special Mummy & Bo time, she clearly misses them and asks for them every afternoon. I love that she calls Ben “Benny” and that he has taken this on himself asking her “Shall Benny do it for you?”. He’s so lovely with her. In fact both Ben and Chloe have such a lot of patience with Amy, they rarely complain that she’s in the way or spoiling their game as younger siblings can be wont to do. That said things like LEGO are carefully stashed upstairs where she can’t do them (or herself) any harm! One of Amy’s favourite things to do is to dress up with Chloe in princess costumes and play pretend. Cooking in the kitchen, pushing the pram around and being Mummy or just generally going along with whatever tale Ben and Chloe have come up with – her imagination is developing quickly!
Amy is super affectionate and has a number of people she deems to be very special in her life. She absolutely knows who her favourite people are and will often talk about them – far and away her most favourite person is “Ganny” who she loves to talk to on the phone and she mentions her on a pretty much daily basis, I only wish we lived a little closer. There must also be special shout outs for “My Custard, Mich and Hange” who are also very popular for Miss Amy right now.
As I’ve written many times in previous Amy Watch updates – she’s very much Mummy’s girl. We go through phases of this being less intense but it’s always there. It doesn’t stop her enjoying time away or with other people but she will almost always choose me if I’m in the room, unless of course Ganny or Hange are there as well!
Our talkative little lady is more than capable of making herself understood, speaking in sentences and constantly surprising us with the words she knows. I often have to remind myself how old she is! She makes me laugh when she gently holds my cheeks to make sure I’m looking at her and says “Listen me Mummy!” The health visitor came to do her 2 year check earlier this week and within moments of getting through the door Amy has asked if she was the postman, made her a cake and walked a toy dog across the living room telling it to heel. The health visitor decided perhaps she wouldn’t bother performing her formal assessments! She knows her own mind and can be stubborn but at the moment distraction is key to avoiding any major problems, I just hope that her ability to communicate will see us through the “terrible twos” without too much of the “terrible”! She makes me laugh that she’s very determined about her own name at the moment and if you call her “Bo” or “Poppet” or anything else she responds with a stern “I not gorgeous, Amy!”
Amy loves to walk and will often choose to walk rather than go in her pushchair, demanding “me walking” – thankfully she’s quite good at having her reins on as she’s not that great at holding hands at times! She can walk really good distances now and can happily walk to school and back, though there’s been plenty of times I’ve regretted not taking the pushchair along when I’ve ended up carrying her half the way home. I’m not about to give up the pushchair any time soon that’s for sure. I still carry her in the sling occasionally and she still loves to be on my back but it’s getting harder to carry her for any sort of distance.
After Amy climbed out of her cot and broke her arm in August we have taken the side of her cot and she’s now sleeping in a proper toddler bed. We didn’t do it immediately for fear of her rolling out of bed and hurting her arm even more – and of course whilst her arm was broken she couldn’t climb anyway. It’s been about a fortnight since we took the sides off and she’s barely batted an eyelid. I’ve found her asleep on the floor a couple of times and she’s definitely fallen out of bed once or twice but otherwise it’s gone fairly smoothly. I had wondered if it would affect her afternoon sleeps but so far so good!
Later this month Amy will be starting playgroup – which I can hardly get my head around. She will be going to the same setting that Ben and Chloe both went to though they were a few months older on starting and with being summer babies they were there less than a full school year before moving to school nursery. As Amy is a November baby she will be there almost two years before she starts at school nursery. At the moment she’s only going for one morning a week but I’m sure we’ll build that up over time. I’m quite nervous about her going but I know she’s going to love it – she’s already asking “Me go school?”
There’s no baby left here, our little girl is most definitely growing up. She does still love her thumb though!

She is just so beautiful. I can't believe she is 2 – it seems like only yesterday we were placing bets on the day she would arrive!
Ahhh she's such a cutie. I love the photos of her. It's nice to read about older ages so I can see what I have to come with my daughter. She's 19 months. It's good to hear that Amy has settled into her toddler bed too and amazing that she's talking full sentences. She sounds like she has a such a strong personality. xx
